New Ultra-Fast CFexpress Memory Cards by Sony

Sony is once again at the cutting edge of the memory card game with the announcement of their new 128GB CFexpresss Type B memory card. First released back in 2016, the CFexpress standard is the next step in the Compact Flash evolution. The current CFexpress version 1.0 shares the physical design of current XQD cards while providing speeds of up to 2GB/sec.

While not the first of its kind, the Sony CFexpress is certainly among the fastest. It offers up to 1700MB/sec read and 1480MB/sec write speeds, provided you can find a device to utilize such speeds. It is reported that some XQD devices like the Nikon Z6 and Z7 might include support for CFexpress in future firmware updates.

Sony also announced a new CFexpress memory card reader, the MRW-G1, that takes advantage of the new media’s exceptional speed.
