Legendary Russian lens and camera manufacturer Zenit has just presented an exciting new full frame manual-focus lens for the Sony E-mount. First announced a few years ago, the Zenitar 0.95 / 50 is a result of Zenit’s cooperation with Leica, which has brought us things like the Zenit M. The new lens is completely manual, both focus and aperture are controlled through dedicated rings and there is no electronics to connect the lens to the camera body.
The smooth, click-less diaphragm has a whopping 14 blades for perfectly circular bokeh rendition. The lens is constructed entirely out of glass and metal, and this reflects in the weight – the 0.95/50 punches in at 1.1 kilogram or about 2.4 pounds. The optical design features 9 elements in 8 groups and is reported to be an original design developed in Zenit’s Krasnogorsk plant.
